Riello UPS has developed a unique ECO Energy Levels rating system, designed to help IT managers select the most efficient UPS for their installations. The first of its kind in the power protection industry, details of the new system are being launched in the company’s 2009, 80-page product brochure.
Higher operating efficiencies mean lower running costs, power consumption and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). All prime areas of concern highlighted in a recent UK market report by Datacentre Dynamics. Each Riello UPS above 3kVA has been given an ECO Energy Level rating between 1 and 6 (6 being the most energy efficient). The levels take into account operational efficiency in full on-line mode and the availability of a ‘Smart-mode’ option. This is an intelligent economy mode at which higher levels of efficiency can be achieved approaching 98%.
Riello says it is the first UPS manufacturer to rate its products for energy efficiency. The new initiative is part of a company wide programme to make Riello the most environmentally friendly power protection company in Europe. In addition, the company is actively involved in the research & development of other areas that can impact a UPS environment. These include adaptive management to reduce the use of consumables including batteries, fans and capacitors, and the presentation of a UPS as a zero-impact source (with a Low Total Harmonic Distortion of 3% and high input power factor of 0.99) on connection to a mains power supply.
“We are delighted to be able to take an industry first with our energy rating system” commented Robin Koffler, General Manager for Riello UPS Ltd. “Now clients can immediately assess our UPS efficiency and see how we can help reduce their CO² emissions and provide absolute power continuity”.
