THUS Secures ScottishPower Contract

Newly crowned Comms Channel Awards network operator of the year Thus Plc has announced its appointment as telecoms service provider to ScottishPower Energy Networks the electricity asset owner and management business of ScottishPower, for the ongoing management of its strategic telecommunications network infrastructure. The new contract will provide a reduction in the network support costs as well as deliver enhanced network operational efficiency.

ScottishPower Energy Networks own, manage, operate, maintain and repair the equipment and utility networks that connect 3.3 million homes and businesses to the electricity supply network. As asset managers of an electricity network spread across the UK, ScottishPower Energy Networks is focused on improving the integrity, security and performance of this network. THUS has been selected to support and maintain the strategic telecommunications network infrastructure, assisting the customer in the effective communication and management of protection telemetry . THUS has been delivering managed solutions to ScottishPower since 1999 and has now retained the ScottishPower Energy Networks business following a competitive tender process against other UK communication providers.

Increased scope of the contract and competitive pricing helped THUS demonstrate value add during the selection process,” said Mike Young, Telecoms Services manager, ScottishPower Energy Networks.

The new contract will see THUS manage ScottishPower Energy Networks’ SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) and PDH (Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy) networks, as well as its copper, fibre and radio networks, UPS systems and an independent operational telephone system. A number of service key performance indicators (KPIs) are specified under the contract and will be used to monitor service delivery improvement such as network availability.

The fully managed service will provide ScottishPower Energy Networks with enhanced management and control of its infrastructure, enabling it to better monitor and identify any faults on its geographically disbursed assets. In addition, THUS will supply full consultative design services and will work closely with the company to ensure that services are extended to meet ever-changing needs.
