Transatel Launches New Prepaid MVNO

Transatel is delighted to announce that it has been chosen as the MVNA supplier for the new MVNO from Filipino operator Globe Telecom in the UK and has successfully launched the new prepaid MVNO within 5 weeks of contract signature

The new MVNO will make use of Transatel’s MVNA platform and network partnership with EE. The mobile service will address the needs of the Filipino community in the UK by offering affordable mobile communications for both national and international communications, as well as innovative services and exclusive deals. The service was launched this Saturday, the 20th of July at the Filipino festival Barrio Fiesta in Hounslow, London.

Globe, one of the national networks for mobile and fixed line services in the Philippines is expanding internationally to gain customers outside of its domestic market by using the existing network infrastructure of EE and the MVNO aggregator (MVNA) platform of Transatel in order to offer a new mobile service for Filipinos in the UK. Through its partnership with Transatel, Globe benefits from a much lower cost-of-entry to the market than it would have had to finance by acquiring its own network infrastructure or partnering with a network directly and by choosing to use Transatel’s MVNA business model, Globe has access to an off-the-shelf solution for all its requirements in its go-to-market strategy. Transatel will be Globe’s primary supplier for all of the IT services to enable the MVNO on the EE network, airtime cost negotiation and procurement, provisioning tools, real-time prepaid billing, bundle configuration, CDR generation, as well as having access to Transatel’s web tools and APIs to enable customer care.

The new MVNO will provide competitive basic rates for international calls back to the Philippines and calls in the UK, as well as a range of prepaid bundles to enable their customers to get the best choice of minutes, texts, and data when they top up. In future, Globe may also make use of Transatel’s virtual number services so that callers on other networks in the Philippines will be able to contact mobile users in the UK at the same price as if they were making a local call. The MVNO service will be distributed to Filipino expatriates, Filipino tourists visiting the UK and mainland Europe, as well as Filipino business-travellers.

Philippe Vigneau, VP of Business Development for Transatel said “All of us at Transatel are very pleased to have been chosen as the MVNA partner of Globe for their UK and I am immensely proud of the team for having managed the project so efficiently, given the demanding timescales involved. This demonstrates once again why Transatel is the partner of choice for companies of any size who want to enter the market as a new MVNO in the UK.”

Jason Bellman, Director of MVNOs and National M2M said “We’re delighted that EE is Globe’s MVNO partner in the UK. As the largest MVNO operator in the UK, customers on our partner networks can be sure that they are on the fastest and biggest network allowing them to do more on their mobile devices in more places.”
