Banking on Vodafone?

Vodafone customers can now access their bank accounts on the go with their mobile phones for free with the launch of Vodafone Internet On Your Mobile.

All handsets that allow internet access will be able to run the service which allows customers to check their balance, ask for a mini-statement, view transaction history and top up pay-as-you-go mobiles. In the future, customers will be able to pay bills and buy travel tickets via their mobile.

The service allows customers of the UK's leading banks, including HSBC, first direct, Alliance & Leicester rolling out to Royal Bank of Scotland, NatWest and Ulster Bank in Northern Ireland later this summer, to access their bank accounts.

Al Russell, Head of Vodafone Internet On Your Mobile said: "With the launch of the Vodafone Internet On Your Mobile we want to give customers access to all the services they see as essential, in the palm of their hand.  Banking is one of the most important services that our customers use and by partnering with the Monilink network we can ensure that all of our customers are able to access their bank accounts on the move, whenever they wish."

The banks are offering the service for free during 2007 at which stage they consider charging customers for the service.
